Dyno & Tuning

Dyno tuning in North County

At Dynotech Motorsports, located just north of San Diego in Vista, we do have a dyno just as the name suggests. It is a Mustang 2wd (single axle) unit located in its own bay just inside the door to ensure plenty of fresh air for the engine and proper ventilation for exhaust as well. You may have your vehicle dyno tested to see what kind of power and torque it makes, see what your air-fuel ratio may be, have it dyno tuned, run a quarter mile or 0-60 test and more. We have experience tuning with many different types of systems and software and can easily adapt to whatever you may have to bring in. Please call any time with whatever your tuning request may be.

How does a Dyno work?

A dynomometer is a machine that simulates the vehicle driving on the road. It takes into account vehicle weight, engine rpm, rate of acceleration, as well as the wind drag factor to determine how much horsepower and torque a vehicle may produce. Dynos are also extremely helpful for modified vehicles that need custom tuning/calibrating to ensure they are operating within the recommended parameters. With our dyno we are able to set the amount of load manually including grade %, holding the rollers at any specified speed, vehicle simulation, or overall load % applied. This makes tuning safe, effective, and thorough.

What do I need to Dyno my car?

Just about any 2wd car can be dyno tested on our machine. There has to be an accessible rpm pickup or transmission with a 1:1 drive ratio, adequate tie down points (ideally 2 front, two rear) that don’t interfere with moving parts or excessive heat, and knowledge of the vehicles curb weight (Not the gross vehicle weight commonly listed in the door jam). We will provide a printed copy of the results and provide an air-fuel ration log as well. Air fuel ration may only be logged if the exhaust system has an extra O2 sensor bung prior to the catalytic converter(s) or if there are no converters on the car at all. There may be an extra charge involved to install the sensor on your vehicle depending on the accessibility of the bung location. We have a tailpipe mount for the sensor that will be installed at no charge for vehicles with no catalytic converters.

What do I need to dyno-tune my car?

The same as above plus more. Unless you have a carburated vehicle, we cannot magically tune any car and make changes to it. Your vehicle must be equipped with some sort of tuning provision that allows one to make changes to the engine management system. This could be in the form of a chip, aftermarket ecu, piggy back ecu, performance tuner/module, etc. Also don’t forget to bring a full tank of gas! If you have a question as to the readiness of your vehicle to be tuned on a dyno, please give us a call.
